TRIBUTE TO MUSICIANS I LOVE #2 - Milton Nascimento -

Notez
Durée : 4min 46sec | Chaîne : Français

Contemporary of tropicalism and influenced by the movement which revolutionized Brazilian music in the 60s, Milton Nascimento is an artist who syncretizes jazz, pop, and classical styles with the traditional and sacred music from Minas Gerais.

The diversity of his collaborations with Paul Desmond, Elis Regis, Herbie Hancock, Sarah Vaughan, Pat Metheny, Mercedes Sosa, Sting, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Quincy Jones and many more, reflects the extent of his many interests.

To pay homage to him, I chose "Ponta de Areia,” the song that made him famous world wide in 1974, alongside Wayne Shorter on the album "Native Dancer.”  More than thirty years later, the wonderful Esperanza Spalding made a cover mixing Brazilian groove and polyphony.

The lyrics of "Ponta de Areia" deplore the disappearance of a railway line connecting Minas Gerais to the sea. They relate, with melancholy, the happiness of people to the passage of trains.

Citizen of the world, open to all cultures and all musical expressions, it is the richness of Milton Nascimento, guitarist, singer-songwriter, committed man, humanist and environmentalist, which deeply touched me and convinced me to do this second tribute.

François Tissot plays the Vandoren B40 mouthpiece with V.12 reeds #3 and the M/O pink gold ligature.
